Russian Standardization Institute took part in the 43rd General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as part of GOST R Delegation which was headed by the Head of GOST R Anton Shalaev.
British Standards Institution (BSI) was the organizer of this event. ISO GA was held online on an interactive platform that was specially developed for this event. More than 550 countries - ISO Members took part in the 43rd ISO General Assembly.
Main topic of ISO GA 2021 is the following – «The Future Has Begun». Thematic report «Discovery Zones: Planet, Society and Work» was presented during the ISO General Assembly. Discussions with the invited leaders and innovators were held. These leaders inspired the participants of ISO GA by the ideas about the ways of solving global problems and suggestions. These suggestions must be implemented by ISO in the framework of the ISO Strategy 2030.
FSBI «RST» headed by the Deputy Director General Alexey Ivanov, Director of the Department of International Cooperation Julia Tufanova, Head of the Department of Cooperation with ISO Anastasia Deryabina participated in three workshops of the 43rd ISO General Assembly:
- INNOVATION: CHALLENGE THE NOW TO DESIGN THE FUTURE
Agility and innovation are key to survival in our rapidly changing world. Missing today’s opportunities could make us irrelevant tomorrow. But how do we instill this mindset in our organizational culture? Being ready for change means being able to challenge assumptions that we take for granted so we can do things differently. First-hand examples of how some organizations got there were provided during this workshop.
- DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: LEARN TO HEAR AND ENGAGE EVERY VOICE
How do you engage new generations in standards development? What does true gender representation and inclusion mean? What makes an organization’s diversity program successful? Opportunities and challenges for diversity and inclusion in organizations and technical work were explored during this session. Strategy for stakeholder engagement was defined to harness opportunities for positive change.
- CLIMATE AND GOVERNANCE: CREATE YOUR NATIONAL CLIMATE TOOLKIT
Focusing on the implications of climate change for society, this breakout explores how International Standards can support global climate change action. Points of view of various experts in this field were provided and benefits of use of standards and accreditation as alternatives to regulation were presented during this workshop.
Reference data: The General Assembly is the overarching organ and ultimate authority of the Organization. As a general rule the General Assembly meets once a year. The General Assembly approves, inter alia, the ISO Strategy, ISO membership fees and ISO Central Secretariat financial statements. The General Assembly elects the President and Council members, and appoints the Vice-Presidents and financial auditors.
