Russian Federation will send the team of pupils for participation in the «Youth Standards Olympiad» that will be held in August 2022 in South Korea. Relevant agreements have been achieved between the CEO of GOST R Anton Shalaev and Head of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) Sanghoon Lee.
This event has been held annually since 2006 according to the initiative of national body on standardization of South Korea - KATS. It is aimed at popularization of standards among teenagers which will enable them to unlock the potential of standardization tools. 120 participants representing 40 teams from 7 countries such as China, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Rwanda and Singapore took part in the Olympiad in 2021. Award was presented to the winner by the Korean Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum in order to highlight strategic relevance of standardization for South Korea. Next International Standards Olympiad will be carried out in August 2022.
This Olympiad will test not only knowledge in the field of standardization from a theoretical point of view but also unite creative abilities, scientific knowledge creating an opportunity for pupils to explore unique world of standardization. Main goals and objectives of the Olympiad are to identify and develop students' creative abilities and interest in research and scientific activities, raise public awareness of the importance of standardization for the purposes of safety, quality of life and sustainable development.
Selection round starts from February 1, 2022 in Russia. Any student from 13 to 18 years old can take part in it. It is required to fill out a questionnaire and write an essay on the following topic «What are standards for? » to participate in the selection round. Final competition will be conducted in Ufa where Russian team will be formed on June 1, 2022.
Pupils will be judged according to various criteria such as innovative approach to solving problems, creative thinking and knowledge of English language.
