The General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) ran since September 19, 2022 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Sessions of the ISO governing authorities, more than 50 Round Tables and Open sessions devoted to the most relevant issues of the development of standardization will be held in an in-person format during a week within the framework of the ISO General Assembly. It also should be mentioned that in 2022 this important event is carried out in the format of face-to-face meeting for the first time during previous three years.
The Delegation of the Russian Federation was headed by the CEO of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (GOST R) Anton Shalaev. The Delegation of the Russian Federation also consisted of the employees of the GOST R Central Office and representatives of the Russian Standardization Institute.
Deputy Director General Alexey Ivanov, Director of the Department of International Cooperation Julia Tufanova and Head of the Department of Cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Anastasia Deryabina acted on behalf of the Russian Standardization Institute.
The Russian Federation (formerly the Soviet Union) is one of the states that founded ISO in 1947. Nowadays the Russian Federation continues to participate closely in the activities of ISO being its Member.
CEO of GOST R Anton Shalaev told that international standardization acted independently from the politics and nowadays the Russian Federation acted as the Member body (P-Member) of the following international organizations for standardization such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). He also noted that the Russian Federation had complete access to all standards. Russian experts have an opportunity to connect to the ISO and IEC bases in an online format and take part in the development of international standards while the rights of the chairmanship and rights of the secretariats in relevant international technical committees are preserved. The number of draft international standards being developed due to the initiative of the Russian Federation and with the guidance of Russian experts increases.
Anton Shalaev also pointed out that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) adopted four international standards that were developed due to the initiative of the Russian Federation in 2021. CEO of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology highlighted that the Russian Federation achieved this result for the first time during the whole post-Soviet time.
