The team of the Russian Federation will participate in the International Youth Standards Olympiad among the pupils for the second time. This Olympiad is held annually with the support of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The International Standards Olympiad was held for the first time 17 years ago according to the initiative of national body on standardization of South Korea - KATS. The team of the Russian Federation took part in this event for the first time in 2022. More than 230 applications for participation from 21 regions of Russia were received. 75 pupils got into the selection round while 34 of them participated in the final round of the selection. 27 pupils took part in an in-person format, 7 children participated in an online format. 6 pupils joined the team of the Russian Federation and represented the country in the 17th International Standards Olympiad.
The International Standards Olympiad will check the knowledge in the field of standardization from theoretical point of view and it will also unite creative abilities, scientific knowledge creating the opportunity to explore the standardization world for the pupils.
The main aims and objectives of the Olympiad are the following:
- detection and development of creative abilities and interest to the scientific and research activities among the pupils;
- raising awareness of the society about the importance of standardization for safety, quality of life and sustainable development.
The pupils will also be assessed for their ability to work in a team and knowledge of English language.
The selection tour has been started since 20 January 2023 and it will last until 1 March 2023. Final stage of selection will be held on 26 April 2023.
Any pupil from 13 to 18 years old can participate. A pupil should fill in the questionnaire and write a composition “The role of standards”.
The team representing the Russian Federation in the 17th International Standards Olympiad will be formed according to the results of final stage of selection.
