More than 3800 pupils and students from more than 150 educational institutions of Russia visited 51 subordinated organizations of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (GOST R) in the framework of the pilot project “The GOST R Open Day” during March 2023.
This project has been organized by the Council of young scientists and specialists of “GOST R Technospetsnaz”. The main aim of this project is popularization of engineer professions among young people.
Students from the specialized departments of the Moscow Aviation University (MAI), Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), Moscow State University of Technology STANKIN (MSUT “STANKIN”) visited the Russian Standardization Institute in the framework of the project events.
Students learnt about peculiarities and specific character of the activities in the field of standardization, technical regulation and metrology during the excursion to the Russian Standardization Institute. They also visited the Federal Information Collection of Standards, saw historical archives where GOSTs of the Great Patriotic War were kept. Young people also had an opportunity to look at the first native document on standardization - All-Union standard (OST 1) and other documents on standardization.
CEO of GOST R Anton Shalaev noted that similar excursions with the examples of real work were intended to take an interest to engineer specializations among young generation. He also highlighted that professions of metrologists, testers and specialists on standardization were crucially important for industry that was created by magnificent engineers. CEO of GOST R paid special attention that nowadays the above-mentioned professions were in great demand and it was necessary to tell about them to young people.
GOST R has been carrying out activities on popularization of engineer professions among young persons of the Russian Federation during several years. An educational project “GOST R Metrological Educational Cluster” was started since 2022 and it was aimed at strengthening the professional orientation of pupils and students.
