March 13, 1992 - Intergovernmental Agreement about carrying out coordinated policy in the field of standardization, metrology and certification between the Countries - CIS Members was signed 32 years ago. The Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC) was formed according to this Agreement. The main aim of EASC was coordination, development and making decisions on coordinated policy in the field of harmonization of technical regulations, standardization, metrology and conformity assessment in the CIS region.
Heads and representatives of national bodies on standardization, metrology, conformity assessment and accreditation of the Countries-Parties to the Agreement, CIS Executive Committee and EASC Bureau on Standards regularly take part in the EASC events. Russian delegation is headed by the CEO of GOST R Anton Shalaev. It is also presented by the officials of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and specialists of the Russian Standardization Institute.
Russian Standardization Institute ensures operations of the representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and GOST R as an authorized representatives of the Russian Federation in part of standardization and conformity assessment. Employees of the Russian Standardization Institute take part in the activities of the EASC working bodies as an authorized representatives and experts, perform functions of the secretariats of many interstate technical committees in the EASC framework.
EASC was acknowledged as regional organization on standardization for the CIS region with the assignment of the following English name - Euro-Asian Counсil for Standardization, Metrology and Certification according to the Resolution
of ISO Council 40/1995 dated September 14, 1995.
Delegates of the Countries - Parties to the Agreement exchange experience in the field of technical regulation, standardization and metrology carried out in national level, adopt or withdraw interstate standards, work on the development of cooperation and eliminating technical barriers to mutual trade in the CIS area during the EASC sessions.
EASC continues to develop organizational and methodological base of interstate standardization, ensure uniformity of measurements, conformity assessment, accreditation and market control that meet international standards and requirements. Up to now it remains one of the most authoritative organizations that really influence trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation among the Countries - CIS Members, and an indispensable mechanism for bringing positions closer and developing a single creative point of view on key issues, ensuring economic integration in the post-Soviet space.
EASC was recognized as one of the most effective industry platform in the CIS framework upon consideration of the Report on activities in 2018-2022 during recent session of the CIS Economic Council.
