A meeting with representatives of the Sudanese Standardization and Metrology Organization (SSMO) was held at the Russian Standardization Institute. The event was held in the context of the recent signed memorandum of cooperation between SSMO (https://www.ssmo.gov.sd/) and Rosstandart (https://t.me/rosstandartgost/2538) at the International Metrology Forum "Metrology Without Borders", which became an important step for the development of bilateral relations in the field of standardization.
Alexey Ivanov, Deputy Director General of the Russian Standardization Institute, opening the meeting, congratulated his Sudanese colleagues on the conclusion of this agreement. He spoke about the state and main directions of development of national and interstate standardization, noting that the Law on Standardization of 2015 has created a solid foundation for the development of a wide range of standards in the Russian Federation.
Director of SSMO Rahba Mohamed thanked for the congratulations and expressed interest:
We would like to understand how standards work in Russia. We may have additional questions about how we can exchange standards and what mechanism exists for this.
Expert of the International Department of SSMO Ahmed Farid noted that their delegation is also interested in developing standards, especially for the food industry.
The participants paid special attention to digital innovations. Dmitry Kasichin, Deputy Director General of the Institute, spoke about the digital transformation of standardization:
Transformation is the transfer from a paper to a digital document. In our understanding, a digital document is still a document interpreted by a human. We have moved on to develop a digital standard that contains, in addition to human-readable information, a machine-readable format.
· At the end of the meeting, the guests were given a tour of the exhibition stands with iconic GOST standards from different years and historical artifacts of standardization
· Demonstrated the Federal Information Collection of Standards with its modern infrastructure.
The meeting highlighted the role of the Russian Standardization Institute as an expert platform ready to share knowledge in the framework of an international dialogue.
