ISO President Dr. ZHANG Xiaogang addressed to the Delegates of the 39th ISO General Assembley which would be held since 9 till 14 September 2016 in Beijing with the following greeting:
Dear Delegates, It is with immense pride and pleasure that I welcome you to the 39th ISO General Assembly in Beijing, China. On this occasion, the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) is honored to host this event, which is happening for the second time in the city of Beijing. 2016 marks the start of the ISO Strategy 2016-2020, which sets out new directions for ISO in the coming years. Because the level of expectations placed on ISO in the near future will continue to increase, we will need to build and reinforce its position. We look at this event as an opportunity to exchange views to strengthen the cooperation not only among ISO members but also with international organizations that work in liaison with ISO. The latter are the key link bridging the gap between regions, countries and people, and encouraging them to work together towards mutually beneficial goals. This year’s General Assembly will be a highly interactive event discussing key issues of concern to ISO and tackling the social and economic challenges of International Standards in the years to come. SAC, the ISO member for China, and the Chinese government attach great importance to the 39th ISO General Assembly. I know that China is proud and happy to be part of an organization that distils international best practice and plays such an important role in our respective countries. As host, SAC is showing its commitment and engagement with the creation of a special Preparatory Committee to ensure the smooth running of the event. A talented group of staff are working tirelessly to prepare the most exciting topics, most spirited debate and best overall experience for you, the delegates. Hosting the 2016 ISO General Assembly reaffirms the Chinese commitment to the importance of international standardization, raises awareness of international standardization within the Chinese government and industry, and contributes to the spirit of international cooperation that drives the standardization community. I feel confident that ISO’s five-year objective of having “ISO standards used everywhere” will undoubtedly contribute to a stronger partnership and closer collaboration for the benefit of all. We have a common mission in the development and dissemination of standards that can help to improve the lives of people everywhere, protect our environment and provide vital support for economic growth. Given the current economic, social and political climate, it is particularly vital that all ISO members recommit themselves to what brought them together to ISO in the first place. No country, no matter how powerful, can deal with all the challenges alone. International Standards enable us to tackle global problems that cannot be solved by any country acting independently. The results of these common goals and visions will strengthen commitment to a better future for the world. The key point is to follow through on our goal together. I would like to express my pleasure again in welcoming you to the 39th ISO General Assembly in Beijing. We will make every effort to support you and to create an environment in which you can achieve your highest level of excellence. As the ISO President, I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you at this year’s ISO General Assembly in Beijing. ISO President |
