International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been celebrated annually on December 3 since 1992.
National standardization is also undertaking activities for people with disabilities.
Federal Information Collection of standards contains more than 200 documents on standardization dealing with technical aids for persons with physical disabilities and injuries. More than half of these documents has been developed by STANDARTINFORM. STANDARTINFORM also served as an expert on assessment of draft standards in most of the other works on this subject.
Development of documents on standardization for people with disabilities is conducted by the technical committee 381 «Technical aids and services for disabled people and other groups of people with limited mobility». Secretariat of this TC has been led by STANDARTINFORM since 2005 until now.
Rosstandart (GOST R) has approved 26 documents on standardization devoted to technical aids and services for disabled people in 2017. Among them there are standards on speech hearing aids trainers, working conditions for disabled people, displays for visually impaired, 8-bit code of information interchange for 6-point representations of characters in Braille system, prosthetics and orthotics of upper- and lower-limb, spinal assistants and headholders, means for urine absorption, wearable on the body of the person, medical-social expertise.
TC 381 has been led for 15 years by Gennady Romanov who is holding the post of the Head of the Department of Scientific and Methodological problems of Technical regulation in the field of social protection of the population in STANDARTINFORM.
