Vice President of Publications and Marketing of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM International) John Pace and Director General of STANDARTINFORM Viacheslav Vitushkin held a working meeting on October 08, 2018.
Matters of current cooperation between two organizations in the sphere of distribution of ASTM standards in the Russian Federation, making translations of ASTM standards into Russian language, copyright of ASTM standards and matter of development of national standards on the basis of standards of ASTM International were examined during this meeting. John Pace also highlighted that ASTM International made records of organizations which were violating copyright of ASTM International and distributed standards of ASTM International without permission of ASTM International. In this regard John Pace prepared an official letter with explanations which organizations in Russia were officially authorized by ASTM International to distribute ASTM publications and which organizations did not have such right (English version of this official letter).
John Pace paid special attention to illegal distribution of ASTM standards and their translations in the territory of the Russian Federation. Viacheslav Vitushkin informed about his intention to take a strict control over making of legal translations of ASTM standards.
During the meeting Parties came to the conclusion that one standard should have only one equivalent translation. STANDARTINFORM intends to help ASTM International in carrying out these activities.
Matter of cooperation of STANDARTINFORM with American Petroleum Institute (API) was also examined during this working meeting.
STANDARTINFORM provided a list of GOST and GOST R standards developed on the basis on standards of ASTM International on request of John Pace.
Matters of restructuring of STANDARTINFORM and its integration with
4 subordinate GOST R organizations: VNIINMASH, Rosoboronstandart,
VNII SMT and Interstandart were also discussed during this working meeting.
Parties expressed their satisfaction by their meeting and agreed to hold a joint event in near future.
