Chemical Worker's Day is celebrated on May 31, 2020. Here is a brief overview of new standards in this field.
Two updated standards for ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol came into force on May 1, 2020.
GOST 19710-2019, Ethylene glycol. Specifications. The standard specifies the requirements for ethylene glycol obtained by hydration of ethylene oxide, as a by-product in the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from ethylene carbonate and methanol, and intended for the production of synthetic fibers, resins, solvents, low-freezing and hydraulic fluids and other purposes.
GOST 10136-2019, Diethylene glycol. Specifications, replaced GOST 10136-77 of the same name. The document establishes requirements to diethylene glycol used in organic synthesis as an extractant of aromatic hydrocarbons for drying natural gas and in other industries.
GOST 17319-2019, Reagents. Methods for determination of heavy metals, comes into force on June 1, 2020, instead of the same name GOST 17319-76.
The new document extends on reagents and establishes hydrogen sulfide and thioacetamide methods of definition of impurity of heavy metals in inorganic and organic reagents which basic substance does not react with hydrogen sulfide and thioacetamide.
GOST R 58821-20201, Phosphogypsum. Acceptance procedure, sampling, transportation and storage, comes into force for the first time on July 1, 2020. This standard establishes general rules for acceptance, sampling, transportation and storage of phosphogypsum. Phosphogypsum is a by-product of the production of wet-process phosphoric acid obtained from the decomposition of phosphate raw materials with a mixture of sulfuric and phosphoric acids.
Phosphogypsum is used in agriculture as ameliorant for chemical land reclamation, calcium-sulphuric fertiliser and as a raw material for compost preparation.
Chemists' Day is a professional holiday of chemical and petrochemical industry workers in Russia and the former USSR countries. It was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet of October 1, 1980 "On Holidays and Memorable Days" and is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of May.
